Solar Energy Initiative

The co-op is closed!  Over 100 homeowners in the Upper Keys signed up.  Cutler Bay Solar Solutions was selected as our provider, and they have already been making home visits and providing individualized estimates for our members.

The Upper Keys has an amazing advantage in solar powering our homes!  The Florida Keys Electric Co-op is very supportive of solar, unlike electric utilities in the rest of the state.  Our FKEC will buy back power generated by your solar system at the same cost that they sell it to us.  They also have a great low interest loan program to finance the system for you!

After only one information session, we have over 50 people signed up and have already issued a Request for Bids from solar contractors!  You have until May 1 to join, and your only commitment is to get a free estimate for solar installation.

Informational meetings will be held on:

March 22, 7 pm, Islamorada Library

April 24, 7 pm, Florida Seabase Conference Center (Lower Matecumbe Key)

Just for fun!  Join Solars & Suds Happy Hour at Florida Keys Brewing Company on March 21 from 6 – 8 pm.

The Florida League of Women Voters has teamed with Solar United Neighbors to help Florida communities go solar! This non-profit program will help communities learn about and affordably participate in solar by using the principle of volume purchasing and competitive bidding to achieve substantial discounts as high as 25% for the average participant.

This new cooperative approach will use best practices that are currently working in five other states, designed to help everyday citizens get significant discounts for solar energy while educating citizens about the potential to reduce utility bills.  Experts are convinced that Florida has the potential to be among the top three solar-producing states in the nation.
